Courses Taught (2015-2016) School Year:
American Government
This one-semester course addresses the theories and practices that are the basis of our nation’s form of government. Students analyze the
structure, operations, and functions of local, state, and national government to better prepare themselves to practice participatory citizenship as
it relates to their responsibilities and rights as citizens.

Law and Juvenile Justice
Law and Juvenile Justice is an elective class in Social Studies that is designed to provide students with exposure to the American legal system and
how it functions.
Course Standards:
01 – Introduction to Law
02 – Criminal Law
- Case Study #1
03 – Juvenile Law
- Case Study #2
04 – Civil Law
U.S. History
This year long course is a graduation requirement for all OPS students. This course continues the study of United States history from 1900 to the
present. Students will address the social, economic, and political development of the nation and relate it to both past and present. Instruction is
organized around the themes of geography, history, economics, culture, and citizenship.

01 - Industrialization and the Progressive Era 01 - Post WWII and the Cold War Begins
02 - Imperialism and the Great War 02 - 1950s (T.V., Rock n' Roll, and Teenagers)
03 - The Roaring 20s 03 - 1960s (Civil Rights, JFK, and the Space Race)
04 - The Great Depression 04 - Vietnam and the 1970s
05 - The Second World War 05 - 1980s - 1990s (Reagan and George H.W. Bush)
06 - 1990s - Present (Clinton, George W. Bush, and 9/11)
